Because we didn’t have time last Friday to bring your our weekly “Potion Vape Two”, we are partially making it up today by reviewing three (3) eLiquids from PV today.
Once again the eJuice we’re reviewing are from the BasicPotion line (a blend of PG and VG). These three flavors are all quite different from each other; a tobacco blend, a fruit blend and a flower/floral blend. Our opinions on the juice differ as much as the flavors themselves.
About Potion Vape eLiquids
Potion Vape offers 15ml and 30ml sizes, in cobalt blue glass bottles with glass eyedroppers. Each bottle is shrink-wrapped to protect freshness and to create a tamper-proof seal. The 15ml bottle is $10.95; the 30ML bottle is $17.95. Premium prices for premium quality, it’s as simple as that.
Nicotine strengths are 6mg, 12mg, 18mg and 24mg. A zero-nicotine eJuice is also offered.
Potion Vape uses the highest quality, USA sourced ingredients, and their flavors do not contain artificial flavors, artificial colors, gum acadia, anthem gum or caffeine. Even their nicotine is organic.
The labels are personalized for every customer. They contain the name of the customer, in our case the words “Spinfuel Review Team” is printed on the label, along with the name of the juice, the “line”, the size, nicotine strength, the ingredients, and even the date the juice was mixed and bottled. Potion Vape is certainly ready for any regulations that come down from the FDA.
The OrganaTine line uses ONLY Vegetable Glycerin providing a 100% PG free e-liquid. Organic and/or natural flavors are used to create authentic flavors with no artificial residue or aftertaste.
The standard BasicPotion line is created using a mix of PG and VG at a ratio of 50/50, or thereabouts. Some recipes may call for slightly different ratios.
The addition of PG adds flavor and allows for bigger throat hits. Using the same organic and/or natural flavors creates the best combination for a great vape.
Every eLiquid by Potion Vape is available in both the OrganaTine and BasicPotion formula. Our team prefers a PG/VG mix most of the time, but we’ve also had several 100% VG eLiquids that vaped and tasted great.
The Review Process
All Potion Vape eLiquids need some Steeping. They come to you as fresh as can be and the airtight bottles keep them that way. To steep a Potion Vape eLiquid you should open the bottle by removing the shrink-wrap and unscrewing the top. Allow the air to mix with the juice for a minute or so, screw the cap back on and shake well. Then open it one more time, screw the cap back on and let sit in a cool, dry, and dark space for a week or more (we think 2 weeks at least). Only then will you vape the full flavor that Potion Vape intends. Trust me, it makes a difference.
Once all 4 members of the team are sure they understand the eLiquid’s flavor profile we meet to discuss what we thought. Then, either myself or Julia will collect the notes taken during the meeting, write the review, pass it around the team to make sure they are okay with what was written, and then proofed once more. Any team member can alter their input in the review at any time up until it goes to Dave for publishing.
The eLiquid Review
A Word About Voltage/Ohms/Watts
As a team we try to use as many batteries, tanks, cartomizers and clearomizers as we can in order to test the juice at various settings. BasicPotion eLiquids, because of their 50:50 PG/VG ratios have a good amount of leverage when it comes to being able to push the voltage, or use low-ohm coils, and even higher coils at higher wattage (power).
We found ‘More Plum’ to vape best with 2.5-3.0ohm coils, found in clearomizers and Kanger horizontal coil cartomizers. The vapor wasn’t very warm, but the flavor peaked at these levels. ‘Our General’ was a juice we wanted to warm up without losing flavor and that was done well enough with clearomizers of 2.2ohm coils with voltages above 4v. Strangely, as a team (majority) we also though ‘Jasminade’ was better as warm vapor. Using 2.5ohm atomizers and 4.1-4.3v we were on the receiving end of some warn and flavorful vapor.
More Plum -A Spinfuel Choice Award Winner – “Sweet and sour. Amazing aftertaste that will make you vape on and on.” – Potion Vape
Tom: The description for ‘More Plum’ confused me some. I expected both sweet and sour and instead what I got was a sweet red plum flavor. A very good flavor at that. ‘More Plum’ is not overly fruity, nor overly sweet, with an authentic plum taste. Personally, I would use ‘More Plum’ as an all-day vape because it hits well, puts out a lot of vapor, and the flavor is excellent. 5 Stars
Julia: One thing we have to mention in the review is that all the eJuice we’ve been reviewing from Potion Vape arrived at the same time, so ‘More Plum’ and the other two flavors we are reviewing today have been steeping for almost 2 months. I believe that makes a difference in the flavor. ‘More Plum’ is loaded with flavor, and I’m not so sure it would have been if we had reviewed it a few weeks ago when we began these reviews.
‘More Plum’ is an excellent juice. I love the intense plum flavor, the vapor is wonderful, and the throat hit is excellent as well. If you like the taste of red plums this is your plum juice. An all-day vape for sure, and a juice I didn’t want to stop vaping. 5 Stars
Keira: And that is my point Jules, IF you like Plums. There is no mistaking the flavor in ‘More Plum’, you can’t dance around it and say it’s a nice fruity mix, and so on. This is real plums, deep, juicy plums. Not too sweet, not at all sour, and most definitely a terrific choice for an all-day vape. If you like Plums, and only if you like plums, you should buy this one. But, like Jules said, ‘More Plum’ has been steeping for weeks, and the flavor is deep, rich, and satisfying. Let is steep! 5 Stars
Jason: Because the plum flavor is so intense I wish we had had the foresight to vape this one when it was brand new so that we could track the flavor intensity. We did that to some of them, Old General was one, and it would have been interesting to see just how much the flavor changed. Anyway, ‘More Plum’ is definitely a good plum vape, with an excellent throat hit, lots of vapor, and the real flavor of
Our General – “House Blend, our take on RY4. A blend of different tobacco leaves, slightly sweet, great tobacco taste. An all day vape.” – Potion Vape
Tom: I was looking forward to Our General since I first saw the bottle. And, I couldn’t resist it so I opened the bottle the day it arrived, weeks ago now, and loaded up a cartomizer. I hated it! Very harsh, with a flavor signature that begged to be put out of its misery. I was so disappointed. Others tried it, and did like it either. So we sealed the bottle back up and left it alone until this past Monday.
What a difference! Somehow a few weeks of steeping turned Our General into one of the smoothest, tastiest, deeply satisfying tobacco vapes I’ve had in forever. The tobacco flavor is like rich, handpicked tobacco leafs that was sun dried and with tender loving care. So rich, almost like tobacco syrup, and something I am adding to my collection immediately. Luscious vapor clouds, great aroma, and a magnificent throat hit. Old General has everything! 5 Stars
Julia: As soon as I began vaping Our General on Monday I knew that this would be something that Tom would adore. This is definitely his kind of tobacco vape. As for me, well, I think it’s a really good tobacco, and for people that are looking for a good tobacco this is one to try, if they let it steep long enough, but I’m just not crazy over deep, rich, tobacco leaf flavor. I would bet that 99% of tobacco Vapers would love it though. 4.5 Stars
Keira: Our General is too much tobacco for me. I understand Tom’s adoration of it though, because it is a very rich, yet very smooth tobacco vape. It was pretty damn harsh when it was new but it mellowed out to be a first class tobacco flavor. Great vapor, deep throat hit, and a tobacco lovers dream, just not for me. 4 Stars
Jason: I have to go with Tom here, this is truly a great tobacco eLiquid. I don’t understand the process that eJuice goes through that makes it a harsh and nasty tobacco when first mixed and then turn into a bold, rich, and smooth tobacco some weeks later. I would have hated to review this one when it first came in because we would have graded it badly. Our General is the tobacco vape to go to
Jasminade – “An all time classic. Jasmine base with added vanilla and a drop of lemon. You can’t go wrong with this one.” – Potion Vape
Tom: All I could think of when I saw the name Jasminade was a floral vape. Sometimes a floral can be fine, but for me there is hardly ever a time I want to vape a floral juice. I may like the taste, I may think it’s a good vape, but ultimately, on my own, I would never consciously choose a floral eLiquid.
So imagine my relief when I discovered that Jasminade was 80% lemonade and only 20% jasmine, in my opinion. This is pretty good juice, with tons and tons of vapor from it and a great throat hit. Still not a flavor I would buy, not crazy about lemons, but for Vapers wanting to try their hand at a mild floral vape this one would make a good introduction. 4 Stars
Julia: I was surprised with Jasminade. I thought this was going to be a floral flavor with hints of lemon, but it’s actually the other way around. Jasminade is a lemonade vape with floral notes, and a decent one at that. All of the BasicPotion flavors put out ample amounts of vapor, but Jasminade puts out almost twice as much as ‘More Plum’ and ‘Our General’, and they put out a lot of vapor themselves. Jasminade has a pretty good throat hit for 12mg nicotine, so all in all I feel pretty confident in saying that if you’re looking for a lemonade vape with floral notes this would make a fine choice. 4 Stars
Keira: I agree that there aren’t much floral notes in Jasminade, but there is some. Mostly it’s semi-sweet lemonade, more sweet and sour than anything else. Huge vapor, okay throat hit, but massive flavor, if you like lemon flavors and want a hint of floral jasmine, I think you would love this one. It has to steep though to bring out the entire flavor it has within, but once it does, you’ll get a lot.
I think I enjoyed the Jasminade more than the others, and I decided to let you know that if you like lemon, or lemonade vapes, Jasminade would make a good all-day vape. Certainly not my favorite flavor from Potion Vape, but not bad at all. A solid lemonade and Jasmine eJuice that performs well. 4.5 Stars
Next week is our last of the 2-flavor reviews for Potion Vape, until they send another batch anyway. But then we’ll need to let them steep for 2 or 3 weeks and we’ll start up again.
The three flavors reviewed today were all good eLiquids, but they are three very different flavors. My favorite was Our General, whereas the other had to give it to ‘More Plum’, which I liked a lot as well.
The people of Potion Vape are very serious about the art of creating eJuice, and it shows in their sophisticated flavors. There is nothing simple about these eLiquids; Potion Vape is a premium label, from the precise recipes to the expensive bottling and packaging. Even the personalized labels add to the premium moniker.
We still think $10.95 for a 15ML bottle is a little too high, so unless you like the eLiquid well enough to buy the much more competitively priced 30ML bottle for $17.95, you would be best off trying a sampler pack first. Though, this time around we can definitely say that if you like plums or are looking for a deeply rich, yet smooth tobacco, then buying ‘More Plum or ‘Old General’ in 30ml bottles is a good idea.
Potion Vape offers 3 different sampler packs for customers who want to sample the flavors first. You can get a 3-pack of 5ML bottles for $11.95, or a 5-pack for $17.95, in either line. One Spinfuel Choice Awards out of three today.
