Minnesota recently raised its cigarette tax an astounding $7.50 per pack. What happened next surprised nobody who's taken a high school economics class. People started switching to e-cigarettes in droves. Apparently the loss of revenue is more concerning to the state than the fact fewer people are smoking.
Like many states, Minnesota is whipped into a lather over e-cigarettes. However, it seems the added incentives of the tax income leaves the state with the unfortunate position of having to encourage people to keep smoking.
