The Prophets of E-Cigs Speak

If you’d like to check out what many of the most involved e-cig bloggers think will happen to the industry and the community in 2014, head on over to Ashtray Blog and have a read.  James Dunworth has accumulated a number of predictions from bloggers of all walks of the e-cig industry to throw in their guesses as to the future.  It’s certainly an interesting read — and I don’t just say that because I’m one of the participants.

Check it out right here.

There’s a wide varieties of opinions and expectations, but like last year’s predictions about 2013, the consensus seems to be that 2014 will be another turning point of the industry.  Both from a regulatory standpoint and a business one, 2014 looks to be the year that seals the future of the industry and the community.  It will signal the open support of the product by powers that be to see it help end the smoking epidemic — or it will stand as a historic speed bump in the obsolescence of smoking.

The list of participants is a who’s who of the vaping and e-cig blogosphere.  These people cover the industry, talk about the industry, and (pardon the pun) breath the industry daily.  It’s unlikely that all these predictions will come true, but this group more than most any other seems likely to be as close as possible given the chaotic future at hand for the industry.

That’s something we all should remember heading into 2014.  Electronic cigarettes stand on a razors edge.  The people making the decisions about how they will be perceived, regulated, and supported or opposed could go a million different ways.

One thing seems clear…  There doesn’t appear to be much space for negotiation and compromise in the minds of e-cig opponents.  This can also be said of so of the vaping community’s more rabid supporters.
